Did you know your accountant can now by law provide a full probate service?
It means that the professional advisor best equipped to deal with your or a loved one’s estate, and all the numbers, now can (providing the will is not disputed):
- Handle all the legal paperwork
- Prepare the estate accounts
- Do the tax calculations and agree the inheritance tax liability with HMRC
- Dealing with queries raised by HMRC
- Obtain the Grant of Probate
- Distribute the assets
This makes things quicker, less stressful, less complex, and saves money.
It means all of your financial affairs (we can also advise on Wills) can be taken care of by one advisor.
We aim to be as transparent as possible throughout the whole process and our fees will normally be calculated on a time incurred basis. Fixed fees on small/ uncomplicated estates can be agreed in advance and we will always give you an estimate of the likely cost at the start of the engagement and update you if this changes. Fees start from £3,500 plus vat and disbursements for simple estates.
Timescales vary depending on the complexity of the estate. A Grant of Probate for a straightforward estate will average between 3 and 6 months.
Partner and staff charge out rates are communicated to clients at the outset – the initial meeting is free of charge.

We are covered by the ICAEW’s Probate Compensation scheme. In the unlikely event that we cannot meet our liabilities to you applications for a claim under this scheme must be made to ICAEW within 12 months of the time you become aware, or reasonably ought to have become aware of the loss.
